Stereotypes associated with my provenance don’t match my personality. If you think a retired Army colonel, West Point graduate, former engineer and triple Board Certified physician wouldn’t likely be an easygoing but passionate, fun-loving humanist, progressive, and Deadhead, you would usually be right, but not on my case. I suppose living at both ends of of the spectrum gives me a wide perspective, which has clearly changed since my conservative upbringing which morphed into Christian Evangelism, until one of those comprehensive re-evaluations during a “crisis of faith” completely turned me around. I have retained some of the positive aspects of the former self, including a sense of duty, which now extends beyond my country to mankind, and loyalty to my family and friends. That loyalty extended through my deconversion and was broken in one instance only by the unexpected death of my wife of 46 years. But I lost much of the arrogance, bigotry, intolerance, irrationality, fuzzy thinking and, yes, faith, which I now consider a vice, and gained even more respect for science, which I follow avidly. I drink socially, don’t smoke tobacco or do addictive drugs, and retain an intolerance those who do, but don’t mind vaping some weed in the appropriate situation. Gone are the narrow views on sexuality, and I immodestly maintain that this was transformative in terms of quality and quantity for me and my wife, who underwent a similar rethinking in this important area.

My time is now spent with my adult children and their spouses and grandkids, when not listening to great live music of all types in my latest home in Austin, Texas, or my passion of hiking and backpacking when the opportunity arises. I love tending my acre plus in the Hill Country of Texas, arguing on-line with theists, playing my clarinet and saxophone, and providing free medical advice to family and friends in my specialties. I don’t follow pop culture and find much of television boring.

I am looking for a confident, thoughtful, educated, passionate, and active woman with similar interests and and temperament, with similar intolerances for smoking and addictive drugs. Polymaths and activists at my end of the political spectrum are a plus. Feminism is not a dirty word to me. If you might get thrown out of a Democratic Convention for some of your views, that is ok, but if you aren’t barred at the door at a Republican Convention, that might be a problem.
