I find my greatest joys in friendships, reading, studying issues I care about, and treating myself well through high quality nutrition and exercise habits that I enjoy.

It's important to me to pay attention to social, economic, and environmental problems. As for belief systems, I consider myself a secular humanist--absolutely no religious/spiritual/supernatural beliefs!

Hiking is important to me, especially in the East Bay foothills and on the coast. I moved to Berkeley from Sacramento about seven years ago and live near the UC Berkeley campus, enjoying its intellectual and cultural opportunities. I'm glad to be able to walk downtown to movie theatres and the library, using my car as little as possible.

My greatest loves are reading, hiking, art, travel, independent and foreign movies, and live music events. In the past I've enjoyed gardening but now as an apartment dweller I can only resort to flower boxes on my deck. However, I like helping my friends with their gardens.

I appreciate people who are willing to question status quo positions and their own ideas instead of maintaining dogmatic rigidity (three cheers for the scientific method!). I also appreciate people who realize how great it is to take care of themselves, both physically and mentally, but I don't have hardened rules for what this caring looks like, so I won't be handing you a questionnaire regarding your eating and exercise habits.

I read lots of nonfiction--politics, history, economics, anthropology, environment, and more. I'm an early music, Baroque and classical music devotee, but also highly appreciate many types of world beat music, especially African and Balkan. I'm glad to try out new types of music.I admit to listening to rock when I do housework and dishes. I enjoy foreign (especially 3rd World) and independent movies, and fortunately I have two "art house" movie theaters near my home. I'm an art museum fan, often going to an exhibit in one of the area's great museums. I've appreciated exploring other cultures and feel that travel has been important to my personal growth. As for food, I eat primarily vegan but don't define myself that way and allow for some animal protein. My favorite restaurant is my own home, because it's the healthiest way to eat, but when I do go to restaurants I especially enjoy ethnic food of all types.
